Commitment: reality is sensations in the body, not the story in the mind.

More precisely: the raw reality of your lived experience is what is directly present as sensations, sounds, images, smells, tastes, body pressure, heat, tightness, movement, breath, seeing, hearing, touching. The story in the mind is an interpretation layered on top of that raw contact.

The mental model is Raw Contact Before Story.

The core DNA is: external stimulus + sense contact + body sensation + mental label + story construction + belief + reaction.

The first category is raw contact. This is what is actually given before interpretation. Variables are sound of boss speaking, message on phone, number on dashboard, face expression, chair pressure, breath movement, heat in face, tight chest, drop in stomach, pressure in head, hollow throat, itch, pain, buzzing, heartbeat, visual image, screen light, body weight, floor contact. This is closest to reality because it is directly observed.

The second category is body sensation. This is where reality becomes personal before the full story forms. Variables are contraction, expansion, heat, cold, heaviness, lightness, pressure, tightening, pulsing, vibration, numbness, sinking, rising, fluttering, burning, aching, blankness, restlessness. When something happens, the body registers it first.

The third category is mental label. This is already one step removed. Variables are hurt, fear, insult, failure, disrespect, danger, success, approval, rejection, loss, win, bad day, good day, I am behind, I am not enough, he does not value me, this will fail. Labels may be useful, but they are not raw reality. They are names placed on sensations and events.

The fourth category is story construction. This is where the mind builds a movie. Variables are my boss thinks I am useless, my career is not working, this ad failure means the business is doomed, people are judging me, I will never become elite, I should already be ahead, this person is better than me, I am losing power, I need to fix everything now. Story feels real because it rides on body sensation. But the story itself is built.

The fifth category is proof test. If something is real in the raw sense, you can return to direct contact. Variables are what is felt in the chest, what is heard right now, what is seen on the screen, what is the number, what is the actual sentence spoken, what is the body doing, what is the breath doing, what is changing. When you check story, it often becomes vague. When you check sensation, it is immediate.

The sixth category is why story feels like reality. Story feels real because it is fused with sensation. Variables are tight chest makes the thought feel true, stomach drop makes future fear feel true, face heat makes shame feel true, jaw tension makes anger feel justified, heart racing makes danger feel certain, body heaviness makes hopelessness feel factual. The body gives charge to the story. Without body charge, many thoughts would feel like weak text on a screen.

The seventh category is practical consequence. If you treat story as reality, you react to the movie. Variables are defend, panic, scroll, argue, seek validation, attack yourself, avoid task, change strategy impulsively, refresh dashboard, send emotional message. If you treat sensation as reality, you observe the wave first. Variables are feel tightness, notice heat, watch urge, see label, wait, choose next task, act cleanly.

The eighth category is important correction. This does not mean the outer world is fake. The outer world exists as practical condition: boss spoke, ad dropped, money is in account, room is messy, body has weight, message arrived, customer paid, client rejected. But your lived experience of that outer world arrives through sense contact and body sensation, then mind adds story. So for inner practice, the most reliable entry point is direct sensation.

The ninth category is Vipassana answer. Vipassana trains you to see: sensation arises, sensation changes, sensation passes, reaction arises, reaction changes, reaction passes, story arises, story changes, story passes. It does not ask you to believe every story. It asks you to observe what is actually present. The body is the laboratory.

The tenth category is Devi answer. Devi receives the raw material, not the polished story. Variables are Devi, this tightness is Yours, Devi, this fear sensation is Yours, Devi, this shame heat is Yours, Devi, this ambition charge is Yours, Devi, this confusion is Yours. Offering becomes cleaner when you offer what is actually present, not just the narrative about it.

So the committed answer is: story is interpretation; sensation is direct lived reality.

The line to remember is: The mind tells the story. The body shows the raw event.
